Archaeology and cultural heritage

Archaeology is among the disciplines, which apply the 14C dating from the very early days of this dating method. The time range and the type of material (for example bones, charcoal, and wood) are well suited for 14C dating. Our laboratory works closely with numerous archaeological offices and is involved in archeological projects abroad. Such collaborations extend to dating of historic and art objects and are a driving force behind our research into the preparation and measurement techniques. Separation of 14C signal preserved in the studied objects might be hindered by the type of contamination and the small amount of the material available. When working with objects of cultural heritage we are dedicated to follow guidelines of ethical conduct concerning sampling and sample size as well as the origin of the studied objects.
