Tandem (AMS)

The Tandem facility is based on a 6 MV HVEC EN-Tandem accelerator, which was installed at ETH Zurich in the early 1960s for nuclear physics experiments. In 2011, the system has been upgraded with a Pelletron charging system. Over the past decades, the focus of the activities has moved to applied physics, mainly accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and material sciences. Today, the Tandem is used for AMS routine measurements of 36Cl and for experimental measurements of medium heavy nuclides with isobaric interference (e.g. 32Si ).
