The next generation of radiocarbon AMS systems that can rather be regarded as a mass spectrometer is being under development in collaboration with external page Ionplus AG. Although LEA follows the basic concept of a Micadas system, it is based on a molecule dissociation unit using a pre-acceleration voltage of 50-60 kV only. A prototype version is operational at Ionplus AG and uses a standard Micadas low energy mass spectrometer as injector. Initial performance tests reveal the applicability of the system for and kinds of radiocarbon dating analyses.
