Artificial radionuclides

The ultra-sensitive detection of man-made, long lived radionuclides is a major focus of our research. Artificial radionuclides provide unique tracers for environmental processes or may serve as clocks. They allow the quantification of mixing and transport processes in all major compartments of the environment, and when introduced in minute amounts into the human body they represent valuable tools for biomedical developments. Furthermore, the characteristic isotopic fingerprint of a nuclear material allows conclusions about the source of a contamination or its intended purpose.
