High-precision analysis
The LIP has proven the ability to measure samples on high-precision down to 1.5‰ (12 years on modern samples) on a routine base. Such measurements not only required the measurement with modern compact AMS systems as developed at ETH, but also strict and well tested laboratory procedures.
High-precision measurements are only performed with an increased number of standards for a reliable and precise normalization and a series of known-age samples processed together with unknown samples for quality control.
The increased requirements of high-precision measurements require special treatment and are as a consequence only offered in scientific collaborations.

Individually processed pine (green diamonds) and oak (blue diamonds) samples measured at ETH Zurich over the course of 2 years show a standard deviation of less than 1.5 ‰ (less than 12 years)
