Research area
My main research area revolves around the development and use of transient tracers to understand oceanographic processes. In particular, we use a combination of long-lived natural and anthropogenic radionuclides (129I, 236U and 14C) to constrain the circulation timescales, pathways, fluxes and mixing regimes of Atlantic waters in the Arctic Ocean and the subpolar North Atlantic. My research interests span from the physical and chemical oceanography, to the use of cutting-edge technologies for the measurement of these tracers and the optimization of chemical procedures for their extraction from seawater samples. Our mission is to embark in oceanographic expeditions and use these tracers, in combination with others (e.g. CFCs, SF6, 39Ar), to provide answer to fundamental questions regarding water mass transport and mixing.
